Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Claims Supervisor reports directly to the Claims Manager and is tasked with overseeing the performance of a claims unit that includes Claims Specialists managing specific inventories of claims. This role also encompasses supervising Claims Assistants who provide essential clerical support. The position requires effective coaching, performance monitoring, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely completion of performance evaluations for all team members.
  • Authorize monetary approvals within designated limits.
  • Maintain a personal diary of selected files, including high-value claims and those with unresolved issues.
  • Provide necessary documentation and reports to clients as required.
  • Offer continuous guidance, mentoring, and constructive feedback to team members.
  • Guarantee that all claims are processed in accordance with relevant laws and company policies.
  • Address personnel issues promptly and keep management informed of any necessary corrective actions.
  • Project a professional image and maintain a supportive attitude towards team members.
  • Identify and train a backup supervisor within the team.
  • Conduct quarterly audits of claims to ensure accuracy and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Promote teamwork and collaboration within the claims unit and across departments.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the California Labor Code as it relates to workers' compensation claims.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Claims Manager.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of five years of progressive experience in claims management, demonstrating strong judgment and negotiation skills.
  • Skills: Proficiency in project management, change management, and leadership. Ability to effectively manage personnel and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
