Position Overview

Role Summary

The Associate Attorney will operate under the general guidance of the department supervisor, engaging in a diverse array of tasks for clients that involve the legal representation of healthcare institutions and professionals across various medical fields, including but not limited to cardiology, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency medicine, family medicine, anesthesia, dentistry, psychiatry, plastic surgery, nursing, and physical therapy.

Key Responsibilities

The essential duties of this role encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting thorough research and interpreting legal facts and statutes related to complex litigation matters, including the defense of intricate medical malpractice cases.
  • Reviewing and analyzing medical documentation.
  • Formulating strategies for litigation defense.
  • Researching and drafting memoranda on various legal topics.
  • Composing correspondence in response to inquiries and requests from clients, attorneys, judges, officials, and agencies.
  • Preparing and responding to written discovery requests.
  • Representing clients in legal proceedings, which may include court appearances, administrative hearings, depositions, and meetings.
  • Documenting daily time entries accurately.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in litigation, with a preference for candidates who have experience in medical malpractice litigation and possess immediately applicable skills.
  • A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and admission to the New Jersey Bar; additional Bar admissions are advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Trial experience is considered a plus.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, with a strong emphasis on attention to detail.
  • Ability to work autonomously, efficiently, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities and the capacity to engage professionally with court officials, judges, attorneys, and the public while maintaining productive working relationships.
  • Experience collaborating within established systems and processes alongside other attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff.
  • Proactive in generating new client relationships through individual and firm-wide networking and marketing initiatives.
  • Comfortable with client interactions and public speaking engagements.
  • Self-driven and entrepreneurial in approach.
  • Commitment to maintaining a high level of proficiency in contemporary legal practices and techniques.
