Facilities Technician II - Painting and Repair Specialist

Job Summary:

The Washington University in St. Louis Facilities Management Department is seeking a skilled Facilities Technician II - Painting and Repair Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for the application of various paints and stains, as well as the repairing of structures of all types.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Recommend paints, finishes, colors, and textures to customers based on their needs.
  • Provide accurate estimates based on labor and materials.
  • Apply latex, alcohol, oil, and epoxy-based paints and stains using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.
  • Respond to emergency situations for assigned areas.
  • Communicate project timelines to customers, ensuring minimal work interruptions to daily operations.
  • Utilize work order software, email, and other Office programs to manage workload and communicate with customers.
  • Follow through on completed work to verify that proper facility conditions are restored and customer needs have been met.
  • Maintain effective communication with other Facility Maintenance Technicians and Maintenance Support Staff.
  • Perform tasks outside the job description supporting the Department and the School's mission.
Working Conditions:

This position requires working inside and outside, in dusty and dirty places such as pits and equipment spaces where temperatures may exceed 100 degrees and equipment may be oily and greasy. You will be exposed to wet and cold conditions, as well as noise and vibration from operation equipment.

Physical Effort:
  • Ability to lift and carry tools and material weighing more than 50 pounds and raise and carry with assistance items weighing 200 pounds.
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch to access areas needing repair.
  • Ability to handle a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Near-visual acuity (correctable with glasses) needed to read equipment diagrams and inspect equipment.
  • Good depth perception, field of vision, and color vision needed to match and install finishes required.
Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.
  • No specific certification is required for this position.
  • General Maintenance Or Skilled Trade Function (2 Years)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Vocational Diploma - specific trade or career
  • Missouri Class E or Illinois Class D driver's license - Department of Motor Vehicle
  • Lifting Equipment, Mechanical Apptitude, Organizational Commitment, Professional Integrity, Strive for Excellence, Time Management
