Job Summary:

The Senior Director of Advancement Services and Donor Relations is a key member of the Morris Heights Health Center's leadership team, reporting directly to the Executive Director of Development. This individual is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, operations, and administration of advancement services and donor relations in support of the institution's fundraising and alumni engagement goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership and Collaboration: Provide strategic direction and leadership for the advancement services team, aligning efforts with the institution's fundraising and engagement priorities. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to optimize advancement operations. Collaborate with colleagues across the Advancement division and other institutional departments to implement shared goals and priorities.
  • Data Management and Reporting: Oversee the management, integrity, and security of constituent data, including donor and alumni records. Utilize data analytics to inform fundraising strategies, donor segmentation, prospect research, and campaign planning. Generate regular reports and dashboards to track fundraising performance, donor engagement metrics, and campaign progress to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Gift Processing and Stewardship: Manage gift processing workflows, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely acknowledgment of donations. Develop and implement a donor recognition, acknowledgment, and stewardship plan according to the gift size and engagement level. Develop and implement stewardship strategies in collaboration with other advancement colleagues to recognize and engage donors effectively, including stewardship events and engagement opportunities.
  • Prospect Research: Lead prospect research efforts to identify and evaluate potential major donors, alumni, and corporate and foundation partners. Provide brief and detailed prospect profiles, wealth assessments, and strategic recommendations to support existing and developing fundraising initiatives.
  • Technology and Systems Management: Evaluate, implement, and maintain advancement technology solutions, including donor databases, CRM systems, online giving platforms, and prospect research tools. Collaborate with IT and vendors to optimize system functionality and integration.
  • Team Management and Development: Recruit, train, and supervise advancement services staff, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and professional development. Provide mentorship, coaching, and performance feedback to support staff growth and success.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Affairs: Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards governing fundraising, gift acceptance, and data privacy. Stay abreast of industry best practices and emerging trends in advancement services.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in advancement services, development operations, or related fields, preferably in higher education or nonprofit organizations
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Demonstrated leadership experience, with a track record of successfully managing teams, projects, and strategic initiatives and collaborating across campus units. Expertise in database management, data analysis, and Blackbaud Raisers Edge CRM systems (or similar CRM). Knowledge and expertise in developing and implementing donor relations and stewardship programs with successful outcomes (e.g., repeat donors, upgraded giving from existing donors). Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, generate insights, and make data-driven recommendations. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively. Commitment to upholding ethical standards, maintaining donor confidentiality, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Collaborative mindset, with the ability to build relationships, foster teamwork, and work effectively across organizational boundaries. Knowledge of fundraising principles, donor relations best practices, and philanthropic trends. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software applications
