Position Overview:

The Culinary Supervisor will be responsible for preparing, serving, and managing food in compliance with applicable regulations and the dietary standards set forth by Oaks Senior Living. This role includes overseeing the inventory, storage, and rotation of food products while adhering to budgetary constraints. The Culinary Supervisor will lead the kitchen team to ensure a clean and sanitized dining environment and compliance with organizational policies.

Essential Qualifications:
  1. Proven experience in large-scale food preparation.
  2. Preferred certification in culinary arts or food service management.
  3. Genuine interest in working with the elderly population.
  4. Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  5. Friendly and caring demeanor.
  6. Minimum age of 18 years. Must pass a background check.
  7. Must complete a physical examination by a licensed healthcare provider and pass a drug screening.
  8. Able to respond effectively in emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities:

Food Management and Inventory
  1. Identify and communicate food and supply needs for upcoming menus.
  2. Assist with the receiving, rotation, and proper storage of food items.
  3. Adhere to financial guidelines and budgetary requirements.
Food Preparation and Service
  1. Prepare meals in accordance with nutritional guidelines and individual dietary needs.
  2. Deliver high-quality meals and snacks, accommodating special dietary requests.
  3. Present food in an appealing and appetizing manner.
  4. Support residents' independence during meals by providing necessary adaptive tools.
  5. Ensure timely and courteous food delivery.
  6. Organize food service for special events as needed.
  7. Encourage resident participation in the Food Service Committee meetings.
  8. Report any kitchen equipment malfunctions to the appropriate supervisor.
Compliance and Sanitation
  1. Ensure adherence to local health regulations and Oaks Senior Living policies.
  2. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen workspace.
  3. Follow proper food storage and handling protocols to meet infection control standards.
  4. Maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
Knowledge Requirements:
  1. Understanding of state food handling and kitchen regulations.
  2. Familiarity with OSHA standards.
  3. Knowledge of fire safety procedures.
  4. Proficient in operating kitchen appliances.
Reports to: Executive Director

Physical Job Requirements:

To successfully fulfill the responsibilities of this role, the employee must be capable of performing essential physical tasks for extended periods. Proper body mechanics and safety protocols must be observed. In a typical workday, the employee will:
  1. Stand or walk for up to eight hours.
  2. Sit for up to two hours.
  3. Occasionally lift and support up to 30 pounds.
  4. Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  5. Regularly kneel, bend, and reach as needed.
