POSITION SUMMARY: The Food Safety Coordinator plays a crucial role in establishing, executing, and sustaining all facets of food safety, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance initiatives within our organization. This position entails overseeing adherence to USDA, FSMA, and HACCP standards across all divisions, as well as managing vendor audits driven by customer requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop and maintain the Crisis Management Program, including leadership of Product Traceability efforts, regular reviews of existing procedures, and management of the Trace Recall Program. Lead the Mock Recall Team to ensure readiness for effective recalls when necessary.
  2. Supervise and uphold all company Quality programs, including GMPs, HACCP protocols, sanitation practices, microbiological assessments, audits, product testing, and recall strategies.
  3. Ensure the supervision and upkeep of all Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Quality Control Procedures, Laboratory Test Procedures, Product Specifications, Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), and Laboratory Safety initiatives.
  4. Maintain both digital and physical records of HACCP and Food Safety Programs as mandated.
  5. Oversee the execution of policies, procedures, programs, and training components integral to the food safety system.
  6. Implement all food safety-related strategies, policies, and procedures; maintain effective communication with all relevant departments to identify food safety risks and opportunities for process enhancements.
  7. Conduct vulnerability assessments and develop mitigation strategies for the Food Defense Program to ensure timely and accurate compliance, thereby reducing the risk of intentional adulteration.
  8. Participate in Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) audits conducted by independent third parties, customers, and regulatory bodies. Analyze findings and compile corrective action plans for any audit discrepancies. Review outcomes with senior management.
  9. Complete Regulatory Visit Reports and document corrective action plans for any non-conformances identified during inspections by local, state, or federal regulatory agencies.
  10. Promptly address food safety complaints from customers and effectively communicate resolutions to both internal and external stakeholders as necessary.
  11. Maintain certifications as a HACCP manager and internal auditor.
  12. Exhibit strong teamwork, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to inspire others towards achieving results.
  13. Complete all necessary documentation related to food safety, corrective actions, and departmental maintenance of food safety programs, as well as customer requests for vendor/supplier documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To excel in this role, candidates must successfully fulfill each essential duty. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Candidates should be prepared to work various shifts and weekends as necessary. Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Word, and Excel is required. This is a full-time position that demands excellent attendance and punctuality.

  1. Education and Experience: A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Food Science, Biology, Enology, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of three years of relevant experience in Food Safety within the Food, Beverage, Dairy, or Wine sectors. HACCP training and certification are mandatory, with additional experience in SQF, GFSI, and FSMA being advantageous.

Language Proficiency:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations. Capable of writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Must effectively communicate with laboratory staff, management, clients, and customers.

  1. Mathematical Skills: Proficient in calculating figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages, and applying basic algebra and geometry concepts.
  1. Reasoning Skills: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Capable of defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.

Other Requirements:
Intermediate or advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet applications is necessary.
