Job Overview

Position Summary:
As a vital member of the Engineering Department, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for conducting thorough analysis and strategic planning for the electrical distribution network. This role involves the management and upkeep of the GPS/GIS systems, while also providing essential technical support to ensure operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
The following responsibilities outline the core functions of this position, which may evolve based on the operational needs of North Arkansas Electric Cooperative Inc. All personnel are expected to adhere to safety protocols and regulations consistently.

  • Contribute to the design and enhancement of system functionalities.
  • Maintain the integrity of the staking database.
  • Oversee the maintenance of GPS and GIS systems.
  • Compile and revise documentation for system work plans, power requirement studies, and long-term strategies.
  • Ensure that all mapping resources are up-to-date and accessible to users.
  • Verify the accuracy and currency of all technical databases.
  • Monitor the functionality and updates of the AMR system, ensuring accurate billing readings.
  • Ensure operational readiness of core facilities, including substations and distribution systems.
  • Track engineering work orders and service requests for prompt resolution.
  • Evaluate and oversee in-house technical studies related to transformer loading and voltage assessments.
  • Formulate plans and timelines for improvements in sectionalizing and distribution systems.
  • Develop and manage budgets for planned enhancements and expansions.
  • Establish and update maintenance schedules for critical systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering consultants on technical studies and construction documentation.
  • Coordinate with contractors to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
  • Draft contracts for labor and materials, and manage the bidding process.
  • Assess construction bids and recommend contract awards.
  • Assist in the development of the Engineering Department's budget and operational plans.
  • Provide technical assistance to members regarding electric service inquiries.
  • Develop software solutions to enhance data usability across engineering platforms.
  • Design control systems for substations and distribution networks.
  • Maintain security and access systems for facilities.
  • Oversee the fiber geodatabase and assist in fiber-optic network design and construction oversight.
  • Manage the installation and testing of various electronic systems.
  • Direct the engineering design for new constructions and existing facilities.
  • Lead the development of long-term work plans and studies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
A degree in Electrical Engineering and a valid Professional Engineering License in Arkansas or the intention to obtain one is required. Previous experience in a similar capacity is preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of electric utility operations and maintenance.
  • Strong analytical skills for solving complex electrical issues.
  • Competent in computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheets.

  • In-depth understanding of regulatory standards relevant to engineering functions.
  • Adept at problem-solving and interpreting various forms of instructions.
  • Ability to engage with members and colleagues courteously.
  • Capable of planning and instructing work effectively.
  • Familiarity with RUS specifications and National Electric Codes.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing multiple projects.
  • Ability to motivate and supervise team members.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Capacity to manage diverse projects within set timelines.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position typically involves office work with occasional outdoor tasks. It requires physical dexterity to operate various equipment and may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions.
