Position Overview:
The role involves assessing patients with a comprehensive range of visual challenges, diagnosing ocular diseases, disorders, and deficiencies, and providing treatment as per professional licensure.
Key Responsibilities:
Conducts thorough examinations of patients presenting various visual issues utilizing a complete array of optometric tools and methodologies.
Identifies visual diseases, disorders, and deficiencies, prescribing appropriate treatment in accordance with the regulations of the relevant state.
Provides prescriptions and fittings for contact lenses.Evaluates the visual needs of partially sighted individuals and recommends low-vision aids, including telescopic and microscopic lenses, magnifiers, and other optical instruments to assist low-vision patients.
In compliance with state regulations or under physician directives, employs diagnostic pharmaceutical agents to identify and diagnose ocular conditions.
Utilizes examination techniques to uncover ocular indications of systemic diseases and their treatments.Refers patients to other relevant Kaiser Permanente specialists as necessary for further assessment and care.
Engages in departmental and educational meetings, including peer review sessions within the medical facility.
Regularly collaborates with internal medicine, pediatrics, and ophthalmology regarding patient care matters.
Contributes to the development of eye care educational programs for medical center personnel and participates in patient education initiatives.
Under physician guidance and in collaboration with an ophthalmologist, assesses and manages specified anterior segment disorders.
Availability for on-call duties with flexible part-time or full-time options, including potential Saturday shifts.Basic Qualifications:
Experience
A minimum of one (1) year of experience or successful completion of an accredited optometry residency program.
Education
Graduation from an accredited Optometry institution is mandatory.
License, Certification, Registration
Must be a licensed Optometrist in the state where services are rendered.
National Provider Identifier
Additional Requirements:
Enrollment in PECOS within 90 days of employment is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least two (2) years of experience in a collaborative healthcare environment is preferred, or successful completion of an accredited residency program.
