Role of the Crisis Intervention Specialist
As a member of the First Responder & Field Response team, the Crisis Intervention Specialist collaborates closely with trained mental health professionals to assist individuals facing a mental health emergency. This role involves traveling into the community to support first responders and responding to urgent calls, ensuring immediate assistance is provided to individuals or families in distress. Following the stabilization of the crisis, the Specialist will engage in follow-up with clients to help them navigate care systems and make referrals for further services and support. By sharing personal recovery experiences, the Specialist encourages clients to engage actively in their treatment journey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responding in the community alongside crisis staff and first responders to de-escalate and stabilize individuals in crisis.
  • Providing immediate support and resources to individuals reaching out for crisis services.
  • Sharing personal recovery experiences, as appropriate, to motivate and encourage clients in their treatment.
  • Modeling engagement strategies to enhance social support, foster meaningful relationships, and access community resources.
  • Assessing client safety and risk, implementing appropriate crisis intervention measures as necessary.
  • Collaborating with clients to create and execute personalized treatment plans and self-directed recovery action plans, advocating for their needs throughout the process.
  • Assisting clients with appointment attendance, social services applications, housing maintenance, and daily living activities.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Self-identified consumer of mental health services in stable recovery for a minimum of one year.
  • Eligibility for Peer Counselor certification as per the Washington State Healthcare Authority.
  • Eligibility for registration as an Agency Affiliated Counselor.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license, vehicle liability insurance, and at least two years of driving experience.
