Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Budget Officer to join our team at the City of Charleston. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for preparing and monitoring annual operating budgets, providing guidance and support in purchasing decisions, and ensuring that our departments stay within budget throughout the fiscal year.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and monitor annual operating budgets for the Police and Fire Departments
  • Review and approve all purchases for the Police Department and Metro Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT)
  • Process payment of all invoices for the Police Department, MDENT, and QRT/CARE grants
  • Review Fire Department purchases over $5,000 and submit to the Purchasing Director
  • Prepare and submit overtime, salary, and PEPI reimbursement requests for the Metro Drug Enforcement Network Team
  • Assist the accounting department at the end of each fiscal year to close all funds used throughout the year
  • Prepare annual SEFA files, electronic federal financial reports, payroll analysis reports, and financial statements for the Metro Drug Enforcement Network Team
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • Four (4) years of experience in management, leadership, financial/operational analysis, project management, or related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
