Job Overview

The Accounting Manager is pivotal in managing the financial accounting and reporting operations within the organization. Reporting directly to the VP, Business Controller, this role is essential for ensuring precise and timely financial disclosures, adhering to accounting standards, maintaining internal controls, and offering strategic financial insights to upper management.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting:

  • Assist in the preparation and examination of monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Oversee and coordinate the financial closing process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses.
  • Guarantee the accuracy and completeness of financial data, focusing on revenue recognition and expense accruals.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

  • Establish and uphold effective internal control procedures to protect company assets and ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) regulations.
  • Conduct regular reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and identify areas for enhancement.
  • Collaborate with business partners to cultivate a robust internal control environment.
  • Coordinate external audits with independent auditors and assist in preparing audit schedules and supporting documentation.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Contribute to the development of annual operating budgets and long-term financial forecasts.
  • Monitor actual financial performance against budget and forecast, providing variance analysis and explanations to management.

Tax Compliance and Planning:

  • Work closely with the internal tax team to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Oversee the preparation of 1099s, property tax, and sales tax returns.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead and mentor a team of four accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the accounting department through effective leadership and mentoring.
  • Encourage professional development and career advancement opportunities for team members.
Qualifications:

A bachelor's or master's degree in accounting is required; CPA certification is highly preferred. Candidates should possess:

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and proficiency in GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or similar industry is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), HFM, Blackline, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with cross-functional teams and senior management.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with a proven track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
