Job Overview

Summit Federal Services, LLC is seeking a skilled Steel Estimator to join our team. As a Steel Estimator, you will play a critical role in the success of our construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Estimate Preparation
  • Review and interpret architectural and structural blueprints, along with project documents to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Calculate quantities of steel materials required, including beams, columns, braces, decking, and miscellaneous steel components to ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Identify labor, equipment, and subcontractor needs for steel fabrication, delivery, and erection to ensure timely completion.
  • Prepare detailed cost breakdowns for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors to ensure transparency and accountability.
Bid Development
  • Analyze project scopes and client requirements to develop competitive bids that meet or exceed client expectations.
  • Solicit and evaluate supplier quotes for steel materials, components, and subcontracted services to ensure best value.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to confirm project specifics and ensure alignment with company goals.
  • Ensure all estimates comply with industry standards and building codes to ensure regulatory compliance.
Budgeting and Cost Control
  • Work with project teams to develop cost budgets for awarded projects to ensure financial responsibility.
  • Monitor project budgets to ensure work is completed within financial constraints and identify areas for cost savings.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards to ensure long-term sustainability.
Communication and Collaboration
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and internal teams to clarify project requirements and resolve discrepancies in a timely and professional manner.
  • Present estimates and proposals to clients and stakeholders in a clear and concise manner to ensure understanding and buy-in.
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure a stable and reliable supply chain.
Risk Management
  • Identify potential risks in project estimates, including material availability, lead times, and price fluctuations to ensure proactive mitigation.
  • Develop contingency plans to mitigate identified risks and ensure business continuity.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience as an estimator in the steel industry or construction sector.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field (preferred but not required).
  • Strong knowledge of steel fabrication and erection processes, materials, and standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (PlanSwift, Bluebeam preferred) and MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of relevant building codes and industry regulations.
  • Familiarity with construction project management.
