Job Summary

Elgin Community College is seeking a highly qualified Full-Time CIS Instructor to join our team. As a key member of our faculty, you will be responsible for teaching courses within the Computer Information Systems program, encompassing both foundational and advanced technical topics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Instruction
    • Promote culturally responsive instructional practices to ensure an inclusive learning environment.
    • Conduct assigned classes and/or labs, preparing lessons and providing course syllabi aligned with contractual requirements.
    • Utilize learning outcomes assessment and measures to improve learning/instruction.
  • Evaluation and Feedback
    • Keep accurate records of student performance and provide regular, confidential, and readily available access to grades.
    • Provide timely feedback to students.
  • Student Support and Guidance
    • Maintain office hours aligned with contractual requirements and respond to student inquiries in a timely manner.
    • Give career and academic advice, referring students to student support services as needed.
    • Implement accommodations and accessible materials for students with disabilities in accordance with official disability notifications.
  • Curriculum Development
    • Review and select textbooks and instructional materials.
    • Develop and revise courses, degree/certificate programs, and course outlines.
    • Participate in articulation of courses/programs and advisory committees, as applicable.
  • Professional Development
    • Participate in professional growth activities aligned with the college's strategic goals.
    • Keep current on research and technologies in assigned specialties.
    • Participate in professional organizations.
  • Departmental Routines
    • Assist in scheduling of classes and setting departmental goals.
    • Participate in assessment of student learning outcomes at the college, program, and course-level.
    • Assist in assessing new equipment and/or supplies.
    • Serve on standing and ad-hoc committees, as applicable.
    • Participate in program review and comply with registration/records procedures.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree
    • In Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Industry Certifications
    • Possess at least two of the following relevant industry certifications: CCNA, CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+.
  • Desirable Qualifications
    • Extensive experience in various teaching modalities, including on-campus and online.
    • A strong background in industry certifications and proficiency with industry-standard technologies.
    • A commitment to student success, continuous improvement of teaching methodologies, and staying current with technological advancements in the field.
Work Environment

The work environment is typical of an office or administrative setting, with moderate noise levels.
