Pharmacy Technician II - Infusion Therapy

The Pharmacy Technician at Nationwide Children's Hospital plays a crucial role in supporting pharmacists by managing the preparation and delivery of medications and supplies for home care patients. This position involves the preparation of sterile intravenous solutions and injectables, as well as maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies for home use. The technician is responsible for ensuring age-appropriate care for patients ranging from infants to young adults, and select adult patients.

Schedule: (Full-Time, Benefits Eligible)

Monday to Friday - 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Responsibilities

  • Maintain certification as a pharmacy technician and assist in the preparation of intravenous admixtures and injectables under pharmacist supervision. Complete necessary competency assessments and documentation.
  • Ensure cleanliness and compliance of the I.V. preparation area and pharmacy equipment according to industry standards and regulations.
  • Reconstitute and compound injectable and intravenous medications using aseptic techniques, ensuring proper labeling and adherence to safety standards.
  • Manage the picking and packing of medications and supplies for home infusion therapy, ensuring accurate documentation prior to delivery.
  • Monitor and coordinate the inventory of medications and supplies for home care patients, ensuring timely delivery through appropriate channels.
  • Assist in maintaining an updated medication list within the electronic medical record system.
  • Participate in continuous quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Share on-call responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.

Licensure:

  • Valid Board of Pharmacy Technician License (Registered or Certified). A valid driver's license with proof of insurance is required.

Certifications:

  • Certification by PTCP or ExCPT.

Skills:

  • Experience in aseptic compounding of sterile products, particularly in homecare or hospital settings.

Minimum Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 20kg regularly.
  • Occasional communication via telephone or in person.
  • Frequent use of a computer keyboard.
  • Regular standing, walking, bending, or climbing; occasional sitting.
