Job Summary

Becker Health is seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the provision of care within our physician department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for office visits or outpatient procedures
  • Obtain vital signs and weigh patients
  • Update problem and medication lists at each patient visit
  • Assist in procedures requested by medical providers
  • Perform phlebotomy as needed
  • Check charts routinely for omissions and compliance
  • Maintain sterilization process of all instruments
  • Make referral and prescription calls per medical provider's orders
  • Refill prescriptions per protocol and as applicable
  • Screen calls including emergency calls
  • Ensure all necessary release and consent forms are signed
  • Perform lab testing according to set protocols and maintain yearly competency
  • Perform look up per protocol on the Maine Prescription Monitoring Program
  • Perform Medication Prior Authorizations as needed
  • Prepare electronic charts with all requested information in preparation of patient encounters
  • Schedule patients for procedures in OR and any outpatient test x-rays, labs, etc. if applicable
  • Communicate with patients via various communication avenues including secure messaging
  • Participate with any department quality indicators
  • Responsible to collect provider quality data as requested
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklists with duties to include inventory management, samples management, and other monitors
  • Obtain working knowledge of IMMPACT procedures, policies, performance expectations, etc. as needed
  • Maintain compliance with all hospital policies as well as compliance with all State, Federal and CMS policies of licensing and certification
  • Responsible to maintain medical record privacy and security according to hospital policies and procedures at all times
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of, and commitment to, the hospital's mission, vision and values as well as the service excellence standards while completing all tasks and responsibilities
  • Provides coverage for other DECH/CCH physician offices when necessary
  • Seeks out needed information by staying informed and involved by attending meetings; reading memos, policies, meeting minutes, newsletters, email and other appropriate information in a timely manner
  • Uses patient handling techniques as appropriate to the needs of the individual patient in keeping with the Safe Patient and Handling and Movement Policy
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality, including observing appropriate break times and extending a scheduled shift when necessary to meet patient demands
  • Performs duties in a safe manner, in compliance with all safety policies and procedures
  • Complies with the Code of Conduct and all appropriate policies and procedures
Requirements
  • Must be currently active in the state
  • Less than 1 year of experience
  • No guarantee of hours
  • Nursing specialty
  • Medical Assistant sub-specialty
  • No bilingual requirement
  • Athena EMR used
  • No holiday coverage required
