Position Overview
As a Patient Care Technician II, you will play a vital role in assisting the nursing and medical teams in delivering essential patient care services. Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks aimed at meeting the health needs of patients, including conducting physical assessments, performing routine tests, and administering intravenous therapies as required, all in alignment with established protocols and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver prompt medical assistance to address patient needs in emergency and urgent care settings.
    • Prepare patients for examinations and ensure necessary equipment is readily available.
    • Adhere to policies regarding restraints and forensic procedures.
    • Schedule and coordinate diagnostic tests as prescribed.
    • Safely transport patients in a timely manner.
    • Manage the inventory of patient belongings.
  • Implement patient care plans by executing assigned tasks, which include:
    • Contributing to daily patient management.
    • Carrying out delegated routine care measures.
    • Documenting patient outcomes and care provided.
    • Measuring and recording vital signs such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiration.
    • Preparing and sending specimens for analysis.
    • Assisting with daily living activities, including hygiene and nutrition.
    • Monitoring fluid intake and output.
    • Providing comfort measures for patients.
    • Observing and reporting patient responses to treatments.
    • Completing all necessary documentation promptly.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations, collaborating with hospital security and law enforcement to maintain a secure environment.
  • Exhibit proficiency in IV therapy and care, ensuring adherence to safety standards for the patient population in urgent care settings.
    • Assess and manage patient fluid and electrolyte balance.
    • Initiate and monitor peripheral intravenous therapy.
    • Identify and address complications related to IV therapy.
  • Conduct diagnostic EKGs, ensuring proper patient preparation and electrode placement.
    • Monitor and document EKG results accurately.
    • Perform phlebotomy with minimal discomfort to patients, ensuring proper specimen collection.
  • Engage with patients and staff in a courteous manner, fostering a collaborative environment to enhance patient care.
  • Work alongside forensic teams and law enforcement to ensure safety and compliance during patient transport.
  • Handle clerical tasks, including answering calls, managing patient charts, and scheduling tests.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of patient care and activities.
  • Assist in lifting, positioning, and transporting patients safely.
  • Uphold confidentiality regarding patient and hospital information, adhering to HIPAA and compliance standards.
  • Participate in ongoing training and education to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and cleanliness of the department, ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Provide coverage for absences as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an approved EMT program with IV certification, or equivalent training required.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations preferred.
  • Valid EMT license or equivalent required.
  • Basic Life Support Certification required.
  • Six months of experience in a relevant role required.
  • Completion of unit-specific competency assessments required.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing and walking.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of patients and equipment.
  • Constant communication and interaction with patients and staff.
