Patient Care Assistant II

Position Overview
The Patient Care Assistant II plays a crucial role in delivering compassionate care to patients under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. This position is essential in ensuring a hygienic and secure environment for patients while performing duties in a safe and efficient manner. The role requires maintaining clinical and professional skills tailored to the specific needs of the patient demographic served.
Key Responsibilities
- Aids patients/residents with daily living activities.
- Assists patients/residents with personal grooming and hygiene.
- Monitors and records vital signs, including height and weight.
- Supports patients/residents in eating and mobility according to established protocols.
- Ensures patient/resident rooms are kept clean and organized.
- Observes and communicates any changes in patient/resident conditions.
- Familiarizes patients and families with the unit and instructs on safety protocols.
- Assists with administrative tasks such as answering phones, entering data, and maintaining medical documentation.
- Manages inventory of supply items.
- Executes responsibilities as outlined in the Nurse Aide II scope of practice.
- Performs specialized tasks with appropriate training, such as conducting a 12-Lead Electrocardiogram and routine blood draws.
Physical Demands
The role necessitates walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stretching, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Candidates must be capable of lifting and supporting weights up to 35 pounds when handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English communication is required. Manual dexterity is essential, and physical abilities testing is a prerequisite.
Qualifications and Certifications
- A High School Diploma or GED is mandatory for new hires.
- Must be currently registered with the Nurse Aide Registry as a Nurse Aide II.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required as per organizational guidelines.
Patient Demographics
The individual must demonstrate an understanding of the principles of growth and development, showcasing skills and competencies appropriate to the age, culture, developmental stages, and unique needs of the patient population served.
Confidentiality of Health Information
- Access to protected health information (PHI) will be limited to what is necessary for job functions.
- Information sharing will occur strictly on a need-to-know basis for work-related purposes.
- Access to verbal, written, and electronic PHI is determined by job responsibilities and level within the organization, controlled through user ID and password.
Equipment and Tools
The role requires the use of various tools and equipment, including blood pressure monitors, stethoscopes, thermometers, personal protective gear, wheelchairs, stretchers, utility carts, and other clinical instruments.
