Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Executive Director to lead our Mid-Atlantic region, responsible for sustaining and building on our successful track record of advancing economic and environmental justice through renewable energy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a diverse team of top-quality professionals, ensuring they have the necessary information, tools, and resources to excel in their roles.
  • Practice inclusive leadership and advance our equity, inclusion, and diversity initiatives.
  • Serve as an effective role model for staff and the organization, collaborating with our national headquarters, other affiliates, and the GRID Alternatives affiliate Board.
  • Ensure seamless communication and coordination between the GRID Alternatives affiliate Board and national headquarters.
  • Manage the finances of the GRID Alternatives affiliate, working closely with our national headquarters' CFO/COO/accounting staff and local Board of Directors/Finance Committee.
  • Lead affiliate fundraising efforts to ensure the organization's sustainability, collaborating with national development staff on fundraising initiatives.
Requirements
  • Strong commitment and passion for GRID Alternatives' mission of building community-powered solutions to advance economic and environmental justice through renewable energy.
  • Minimum 5 years of senior/executive management and leadership experience.
  • Diplomatic, strong negotiator, conflict mediator, and team builder.
  • Broad-minded, able to balance big-picture thinking with attention to detail.
  • Adept problem solver with a growth mindset, able to learn and adapt new skills and approaches.
  • Excellent communicator (written and verbal).
  • Seasoned manager, particularly in managing and motivating diverse teams with a mix of technical and non-technical staff, ensuring organized, efficient, and quality delivery of services.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous non-profit management experience.
  • Connections to affordable housing, philanthropic, job training, solar, clean transportation, and low-income advocacy organizations/communities in the Washington, DC metro area.
  • Knowledge of solar energy development and/or construction.
  • Technical skills, specifically MS Teams, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and other relevant software.
  • Strong ties and roots in the Washington, DC metro area.
  • Experience with trauma-informed and restorative justice practices.
  • Lived experience that enables an understanding of poverty and systems of oppression.
