Role Responsibilities
We are seeking qualified candidates for the role of Geospatial Cartography Specialist. The specialist will be responsible for gathering, analyzing, evaluating, extracting, and compiling geospatial data as features (point, line, or area) and terrain information from selected source materials. Utilizing photogrammetric techniques, the goal is to produce an accurate cartographic representation of designated areas at specific scales for digital and geospatial data derived from imagery, intelligence databases, and various ancillary sources to support national security objectives.
The cartographer will apply their knowledge of geography, remote sensing, spatial analysis, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), intelligence matters, and both social and physical sciences to generate insights, characterize events, and identify relationships and trends. Responsibilities include:
- Attributing, exploiting, extracting, formatting, manipulating, positioning, and symbolizing geospatial information.
- Ensuring the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of geospatial information produced in-house or in collaboration with contractors and national and international partners.
Minimum Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Active Top-Secret/SCI security clearance at the time of application, with a willingness to undergo a CI polygraph examination upon request.
- Three to ten years of relevant experience, with a High School diploma and specialized training. A Bachelor's degree in a related field may account for up to 4 years of experience, while a Master's degree can add an additional 2 years.
- Experience in cartographic finishing, feature data extraction, manipulation, and attribution.
- Proficiency in geospatial database management.
- Expertise in ArcGIS and its extensions, or familiarity with other commonly used ELT software such as Socet-Set or Remote View.
- Understanding of various NGA products including CIBI, TLMs, MGCP, MDGs, DTED, SRTM, and NTM.
- Familiarity with data conversion tools such as FME, ESRI extract, transform, and load (ETL) or similar.
- Experience in integrating digital cartography, GIS, remote sensing, photogrammetry, and digital data formats.
- Knowledge of map finishing automation tools.
- Familiarity with data quality control tools such as GAIT and ArcGIS Data Reviewer.
- Understanding of the geospatial data multi-user enterprise environment.
- Experience in preparing, maintaining, and presenting intelligence displays, reports, and briefings.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, high-stress environment requiring multitasking.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of Formal/Advanced Military IA Training (Tech School, Advanced Individual Training, A School, or equivalent MOS/AFSC/Rate).
Key Responsibilities
- Execute cartographic finishing tasks.
- Extract and attribute feature and terrain data.
- Manage data content in accordance with project-specific guidelines.
- Oversee database management.
- Conduct QA/QC of feature data and cartographic products.
