Job Title: Crew Leader

This role is pivotal in ensuring the efficiency of daily operations, collaborating closely with management to identify staffing needs, timelines, and safety measures to uphold among the team. The Crew Leader is tasked with resolving routine site challenges and actively engages all personnel and contractors in necessary training, oversight, and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plans, organizes, and assigns daily tasks for the crew based on directives from a General Foreperson or Line Clearance Supervisor.
  • Conducts field training and retraining, guiding the crew on new or updated job protocols.
  • Implements safe work practices as dictated by experience, judgment, company policy, and OSHA regulations, while providing safety training in line with company standards.
  • Engages with property owners/customers regarding access, power interruptions, and work responsibilities; escalates contentious issues to the General Foreperson.
  • Secures verbal or written consent from property owners to carry out necessary work.
  • Fosters and maintains positive customer and public relations through effective job completion and appropriate crew conduct.
  • May be authorized to investigate incident reports and minor damage claims.
  • Keeps precise records, timesheets, and reports related to crew performance.
  • Manages crew expenses, ensuring effective utilization of personnel, work methods, and equipment operation.
  • Provides the General Foreperson and utility representatives with updates on completed orders, work units, crew hours, and minor repairs.
  • Regularly submits reports on incidents, equipment failures, property damage, and new employee follow-ups.
  • Collaborates with customers, police, and fire departments when obstructing streets or driveways.
  • Establishes barriers, warning signs, and markers to protect crew members and the public from hazards. In emergencies, determines necessary actions to mitigate risks to life and property.
  • Inspects and arranges for repairs of tools, vehicles, and other equipment.
  • Maintains cleanliness on vehicles and at job sites.
  • Responsible for DOT maintenance and inspection standards for all required vehicles.
  • Stays informed about new equipment, specifications, standard practices, operating procedures, and company policies, including EEO and AA policies. Requests repairs or replacements as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Understanding of drawings and symbols related to lines, voltages, and line equipment.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to adapt to field requirements and take independent action without close supervision.
  • Must be able to safely operate a company vehicle.
  • Capable of working with hands raised for extended periods.
  • Weight should not exceed approximately 300 pounds due to equipment limitations.
  • No fear of heights is required.
Education & Experience:
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
Pre-Screen:
  • Upon offer, candidates may be required to undergo and pass a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and/or MVR check.
Licenses & Certifications:
  • Driver's License preferred but not mandatory.
Physical Requirements:
  • RARE (less than 10%): crawling, climbing, gripping, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • OCCASIONAL (up to 33%): standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, body-twisting, manual dexterity, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, climbing stairs, balancing.
  • FREQUENT (up to 66%): walking, sitting, climbing on/off truck, reading, lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • CONTINUOUS (up to 100%): speaking clearly, seeing distant, hearing-speech-range, depth perception, color vision.
Safety:

Due to the inherently hazardous nature of the industry and the requirement to work with or around dangerous equipment, employees must possess adequate eyesight to judge distances and coordinate equipment and tools. They must maintain focus for extended periods, endure various weather conditions while completing tasks, wear personal protective equipment as necessary, and be capable of entering and exiting a vehicle multiple times a day. Additionally, they should have the stamina to navigate diverse terrains and perform job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour workday, as well as communicate effectively and manage conflicts professionally.
  • Work in proximity to energized power lines.
  • Exposure to high noise levels from machinery, chainsaws, wood chippers, and other equipment while using hearing protection.
  • Work in all weather conditions and may encounter natural elements such as irritating plants and insects.
  • Work at various heights and on uneven surfaces.
  • Must be able to walk, climb, and work from ladders or at various heights, performing physically and mentally demanding tasks under challenging weather conditions while handling equipment or materials.
