Job Title: Dean - CCS

Calvert County Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to fill the position of Dean - CCS. This is a ten-month position with a salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current Calvert County Public Schools salary schedule for teachers.

Job Summary:

This position is designed as a three-year internship program. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge related to a school-based administrative leadership role in Calvert County. The Dean - CCS will assist the Principal and Assistant Principal in managing the day-to-day operations of the school, including communicating with all stakeholders, participating in the school improvement process, facilitating professional development, managing student discipline, promoting a positive school climate, and representing the school in the community.

Responsibilities:
  1. Complies with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  2. Complies with administrative policies and procedures and current negotiated agreements for Calvert County Public Schools.
  3. Uses effective problem-solving strategies while incorporating sound judgment and strong communication skills.
  4. Shares with school administrators the responsibility for promoting student achievement and protecting the health and welfare of students.
  5. Collaborates with staff and parents to identify and implement appropriate strategies to improve students' challenging behaviors and instructional needs.
  6. Resolves discipline problems in a fair and just manner and maintains records of any disciplinary action taken.
  7. Participates in the development of positive school culture and working with students.
  8. Develops positive relationships with parents, guardians, and community to promote improved student outcomes and to protect the health and well-being of students.
  9. Plans and implements professional development in conjunction with school-based administrators and supervisors.
  10. Communicates regularly with parents/guardians, teachers, and administrators as it relates to student and teacher success.
  11. Participates in school improvement efforts, facilitates sub-committees, attends department meetings and professional learning communities (PLC) meetings, and conducts classroom walk-throughs with the school administration.
  12. Provides peer coaching as appropriate to teachers and support staff on instructional practice to improve student achievement.
  13. Facilitates the Student Services Team (SST) and 504 processes, School Testing Program, and Special Education in compliance with state and federal mandates with support from school administrators.
  14. Administers assigned extracurricular programs of the school and responds to student-initiated requests for specific new extracurricular clubs, activities, and programs.
  15. Develops an annual professional learning plan and aligns individual performance goals to the school-based administration's focus areas and school improvement plan.
  16. Learns critical aspects of administration including budget, scheduling, employee contracts, crisis planning, and observations/evaluations.
  17. Thinks, concentrates, and interacts positively with others.
  18. Comes to work promptly every day.
  19. Works under stress and meets all deadlines.
Requirements:
  1. A Master's Degree in Education.
  2. An Advanced Professional Certificate (pursuing an Administrative 1 certification).
  3. A minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience.
  4. Experience with multiple schools and/or levels preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
  1. Understanding of and ability to maintain rapport with persons from diverse cultural, ethnic, and racial groups.
  2. Knowledge and demonstrated ability to analyze and use data, including the Student Assessment System, to make instructional and program decisions.
  3. Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel, and community members.
  4. Understands equitable practices and its impact on all facets of education or impact on instruction and school climate.
  5. Understands how trauma, equity, inclusive practices, and restorative practices impact the student and teacher experience.
  6. Demonstrated ability in critical reading and writing skills as well as verbal communication.
  7. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and follow through to meet deadlines effectively.
  8. Knowledge of instructional technology, including digital curriculum and tools, and its use in the classroom.
  9. Knowledge of sound instructional practice including purposeful planning that will increase student achievement when measured in a variety of ways.
  10. Understanding of how to implement various supports to manage student behavior such as Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Ukeru, and Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI).
  11. Understanding of the school improvement process in order to determine root causes, annual goals, classroom strategies, and measurements of success.
  12. Knowledge and ability in organizing whole school programs such as testing, PBIS, and special education.
  13. Understanding of Charlotte Danielson's Framework for Teaching.
  14. Knowledge of Maryland College and Career Ready Standards.
  15. Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and respond effectively to the expectations for this position.
  16. Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures and negotiated agreements for Calvert County Public Schools.
  17. Possess a valid driver's license and motor vehicle insurance.
  18. Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed below.
