Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant I plays a crucial role in delivering healthcare services to patients, ensuring their comfort and well-being during their visits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts preliminary screenings for patients before their appointments with healthcare providers.
- Executes various treatments and diagnostic tasks, including audiology assessments, visual acuity tests, EKGs, and ear irrigation procedures.
- Aids healthcare professionals during examinations and minor surgical interventions.
- Administers prescribed medications and documents their administration accurately.
- Cleans and manages minor wounds, changes dressings, and removes sutures under supervision.
- Prepares examination rooms and ensures all equipment is sanitized and organized.
- Maintains an up-to-date inventory of medical supplies and ensures exam rooms are adequately stocked.
- Processes prescriptions electronically to the pharmacy prior to patient discharge.
- Completes necessary entries in the Electronic Medical Records System, including vital signs and patient history.
- Scans and uploads insurance documentation and medical records into the Electronic Medical Records System.
- Assesses and updates patients' immunization records, administering vaccines as per established protocols.
- Monitors vaccine storage conditions and reports any discrepancies immediately.
- Registers immunizations in the local immunization registry.
- Collects and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis in the absence of lab technicians.
- Communicates any observed patient behaviors that may impact treatment to medical providers.
- Ensures patient comfort and addresses any concerns with the Clinical Operation Manager.
- Changes sharps containers as needed and performs daily checks on eye wash stations.
- Adheres to infection control standards in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Assists in compiling necessary reports and participates in health conferences.
- Attends all staff and departmental meetings to stay informed and engaged.
- Maintains ongoing education to meet recertification requirements for Medical Assistants.
- Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments and disposes of hazardous materials according to safety guidelines.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant certification program.
- Experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Current CPR Certification.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of medical office protocols and regulations regarding medical records.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with patients and healthcare staff.
- Proficient in data entry and familiar with Electronic Health Records systems.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.
- Capable of following both verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Professional demeanor and ability to handle constructive feedback.
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Ability to assist patients with mobility needs.
Desirable Attributes:
- Bilingual skills are a plus.

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
