Job Title and SummaryJob Title: Paint Pump Operator (C-14)
Reports to: Paint Foreman
Summary of position: Operates marine coatings application equipment, including Plural and Single Component Airless Paint Pumps, and maintains strict adherence to paint mixing using approved methods only.
Participates in the application of coatings using brushes and rollers, and maintains paint pumps in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and standard operating procedures.
Performs routine cleaning of work areas, equipment, and paint storage locations, and follows directions concerning painting in the marine industry.
Essential Job RequirementsMonitor environmental parameters related to paint storage, paint application, and dry times.
Assist in the creation of containment methods to maintain environmental controls.
While using brush and roller applicators, ensure surfaces are prepared for coating according to paint manufacturers' specifications.
Follow only approved methods, and participate in striping of tank surfaces using approved methods.
Adhere to OSHA requirements relative to the shipbuilding industry, and comply with company, federal, state, and local safety and environmental rules and regulations.
Accurately operate, clean, and maintain all assigned equipment, properly store equipment, dispose of empty paint and solvent cans appropriately, and take appropriate precautions for paint and solvents as directed by supervisor.
Knowledgeable in checking wet film mil (WFT) thickness being applied, and assist sprayers in pulling lines.
Must be able to correctly and promptly follow directions, and may be required to perform additional duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor for the completion of the job in a safe and timely manner.
Required Education/Experience/CredentialC-14 Pump Operator preferred
Required SkillsAbility to take direction required, and must be able to work cooperatively and productively with other employees and shipyard personnel.
Physical RequirementsRegularly required to walk, frequently required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, or crawl at various heights and in confined spaces, occasionally required to sit, and required to reach with hands and arms, use hands to feel, grip, or handle.
Regularly required to safely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and required to use vision to see up close, distance, and peripherally, as well as depth perception and ability to adjust focus in low light conditions.
May be required to wear a respirator to safely perform assigned tasks, and must be able to follow clean shaven policy.
Aptitude RequirementsMust be able to carry out simple directions in a safe, timely, and productive manner.

Working ConditionsRegularly exposed to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, confined spaces, precarious places, proximity to other employees.
To avoid injury, use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required such as safety clothing, safety devices to protect personnel from bodily harm.
