Job Summary

Crofton Industries is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety and Health Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring that all job sites adhere to occupational health policies and procedures, promoting and ensuring effective safety operations in the field.

  • Assist the Director of Safety and Safety Coordinator, project teams, and leadership with incident investigations, corrective actions, Safety-related program improvements, and final reports.
  • Be self-directed and conduct independently all required safety and health tasks required by the customer and the project environment.
  • Provide safety and health technical support and training to safety coordinators, project managers, and field employees.
  • Evaluate all field safety and health practices, including emergency response procedures, for improvement in effectiveness and compliance.
  • Conduct documented audits and inspections of worksites and areas.
  • Communicate with Project Managers and the Safety Department the conditions and concerns about their project.
  • Maintain the SDS database to meet current status.
  • Work daily with operations to assess the associated risks of multiple job sites.
  • Monitor and report all incidents and report trends.
  • Perform detailed incident investigations and produce thorough incident reports.
  • Evaluate field safety and health practices, including emergency response procedures, for improvement in effectiveness and compliance, and identify any gaps.
  • Report any trends and reoccurring deficiencies as noted from leading indicators to the Director of Safety.
  • Develop training materials and effectively deliver training and instruction at various meeting settings.
  • Consistently evaluate Crofton's Safety Program in their assigned areas and ensure effective implementation.
  • Respond 24/7 when needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently to complete all safety tasks required by Crofton Policy, the customer's requirements, and any Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan.
  • Know how to perform detailed equipment, location, and tool inspections and ensure inspections are conducted as needed.
  • Excellent Communication and Cooperation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proactive Leadership and Leads by example.
  • Strong Organization, sharp attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills, including fluency with MS Office; PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry-specific safety standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and communicate safety protocols to employees and contractors.
  • Proven ability to analyze incidents and develop preventive measures.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with exceptional organizational and record-keeping skills.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in safety coordination or related roles within the construction industry.
  • Experience conducting safety inspections and implementing corrective actions.
Other Requirements
  • OSHA 500 is desired. If not currently certified, must have the capability to attain the certification within 6 months of hire.
  • OSHA 10, 30, and 510.
  • EM385-1-1 (desired).
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certified.
  • Forklift/JLG trained.
  • CHST – Certified Safety and Health Technician (desired).
  • CSP or ASP Certification (desired).
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to drive to project sites with company vehicle.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of job sites in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • May require travel.
  • Exposure to characteristic construction and marine site dangers.
  • Must be on-call to address incidents, injuries, emergencies, harsh weather, and other issues at the job site.
