Position Title

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) PRN

Position Summary:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a crucial role in the outpatient clinic setting, utilizing the nursing process to ensure comprehensive patient care. This position is essential for enhancing and maintaining the health of patients through effective collaboration with healthcare professionals and providing both physical and emotional support to patients and their families. The LPN operates within the framework of the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and adheres to established standards and organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Welcomes patients and prepares them for examinations or procedures, documenting health histories and noting any irregularities for the physician's review.
  • Safely administers medications as prescribed, monitoring and documenting patient responses and reporting any significant changes to the healthcare team.
  • Assists in preparing medical supplies and equipment, supporting the physician or advanced practice provider during patient evaluations and treatments.
  • Ensures accurate and timely documentation in patient charts, facilitating efficient communication among healthcare providers.
  • Coordinates scheduling for tests and treatments, managing referrals to specialists and obtaining necessary pre-authorizations.
  • Collects and processes laboratory specimens, entering results into the electronic medical record as required.
  • Communicates test results and follow-up appointments to patients, providing education as directed by the RN or physician.
  • Reviews medications, treatment plans, and after-visit instructions with patients and their families.
  • Manages incoming calls, directing inquiries to the appropriate healthcare professional.
  • Conducts pre-visit planning by reviewing patient histories and proactively ordering necessary tests and labs.
  • Completes essential documentation, such as FMLA and Home Health orders, ensuring appropriate physician signatures are obtained.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the clinical and technical skills required for the assigned unit or department.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a medical office setting is advantageous.
Licensure and Certification:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing, with multi-state licensure as applicable.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Proficient in basic computer operations.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
