Job Summary

The Peer Support Specialist will work under the general supervision of the Coordinated Specialty Care Program Manager to provide peer support activities in the Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network offices and community at large.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide information and emotional support to clients of Coordinated Specialty Care First Episode Psychosis (CSC-FEP) to strengthen their recovery.
  • Meet with clients served in the CSC program to provide experienced advice and guidance concerning CSC services and mental health services in general.
  • Participate as a team member in conferences designed for the diagnosis and treatment of clients.
  • Assist parents in identifying barriers and problems as well as in problem solving.
  • Act as a liaison and advocate with appropriate agencies, physicians, schools, employers, etc.
  • Consult and meet with other KCF staff regularly.
  • Increase knowledge and skills through attendance of outside conferences and seminars whenever possible.
  • May provide transportation to clients or caregivers.
Requirements
  • Excellent written communication and computer keyboarding for inputting clinical documentation.
  • Excellent verbal communication with clients, staff, and community providers.
  • Time management required to meet service goals.
  • Local travel using Center vehicle.
  • Ability to be CPR and PMAB certified.
  • Valid driver's license and liability insurance required.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Lived experience with Severe Mental Illness required.
  • Experience in social services work preferred.
