Underwriting Specialist Opportunity

The Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool is seeking a skilled Underwriting Specialist to join our team in Austin. As a key member of our commercial lines team, you will be responsible for rating and servicing commercial lines of business, including Workers' Compensation and Multi-Line Liability/Property.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with underwriters to rate and service commercial lines of business
  • Accurately enter and rate exposures using data entry skills
  • Produce documents associated with Member coverages, including bids, proposals, and re-rates
  • Communicate effectively with Members and internal staff via phone, email, and written correspondence
  • Address basic coverage questions and respond to Member requests
  • Research and evaluate specific building attributes, value calculations, and rating components
  • Develop and maintain queries from multiple databases, including basic analysis of results
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of insurance principles and extensive data entry experience
  • Attention to detail and Microsoft Excel proficiency
  • Basic mathematical skills and phone and email interaction
  • Ability to work with multiple public and private agencies and establish effective working relationships
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or insurance-related designation (CPCU or CIC)
  • College coursework or three years of insurance-related work experience
