Probabilistic Risk and Reliability R&D Specialist

About the Role
ISO New England is seeking a highly skilled Probabilistic Risk and Reliability R&D Scientist to join our Emerging Technologies team. As a key member of this dynamic group, you will play a critical role in developing and adopting a new risk-based, probabilistic planning and operation methodology to achieve a healthy balance in the face of increasing uncertainties and changes in generating and consuming electric power.
Key Responsibilities
- Problem Formulation: Understand the current processes and challenges brought by the clean energy transition, incorporating probabilistic-based reliability risk into existing planning and operation processes to improve efficiency.
- Engineering Analysis: Analyze grid events and scenarios, providing technical explanations and solutions.
- Application Development: Design, code, and prototype innovative software solutions to complex technical challenges arising from grid operations and planning.
- External Collaboration: Engage in collaborative efforts with academia and leading research organizations to stay at the forefront of emerging technologies.
- Technology Exploration and Use Case Development: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, collaborate with business users to develop compelling use cases, create prototypes, and provide innovative solutions to both new and existing challenges.
Requirements
- PhD degree in Mathematical, Statistical Sciences or similar majors, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering with a Power focus and a Mathematical/Statistical minor.
- Hands-on experience in software development using popular programming languages like Python, R, Matlab, Mathematica, Julia, etc.
- Good analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
- At least 5 years of experience is required for the Senior level, and 8 years of experience is required for the Lead level.
