Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Technical Documentation Specialist – Network Infrastructure to join our team at UIC Government Services and the Bowhead Family of Companies.

The ideal candidate will develop both written and visual documentation for network infrastructure projects, working closely with engineers and field teams to ensure that all technical data is accurately captured in both written narratives and technical diagrams.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage detailed VISIO drawing packages based on network infrastructure designs, site surveys, installations, and as-built documentation.
  • Develop and compile comprehensive Trainer Facility Reports that include detailed written narratives of network installations, configurations, and as-built conditions.
  • Work closely with network engineers, field technicians, and project managers to gather necessary data from site surveys and installations.
  • Maintain and update all documentation (VISIO drawings and written reports) to reflect any changes in network infrastructure post-installation.
  • Organize and manage a library of drawings and reports for multiple projects, ensuring version control and consistency across all documentation.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a related technical field (e.g., Information Technology, Engineering, or Technical Writing) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in technical writing and drawing development, preferably in network infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to write clear, concise, and technically accurate documentation for complex systems.
  • Minimum 4-6 years in Microsoft Visio with extensive experience creating detailed diagrams for network infrastructure, including routers, switches, servers, and cabling.
  • Minimum 2-4 years Experience with AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure components and configurations, including the ability to interpret technical specifications and site survey data.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and ensure all documentation is properly versioned and stored.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills

  • Certifications related to networking or CAD design (e.g., Cisco certifications, Microsoft certifications).
  • Familiarity with networking hardware from vendors such as Cisco, Kramer, or similar.
  • Previous experience developing both as-built (AB) diagrams and technical reports for network infrastructure projects.

Work Environment

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 30 pounds, kneeling, standing and walking, routinely sitting and constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, and must be able to work under deadlines.

Must be able to travel 25 percent of the time.

Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance. Candidates with an in-scope security clearance are preferred. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance.
