Software Application Support Specialist

We are in search of a proficient Software Application Support Specialist to oversee and enhance the performance of our software solutions. Our Risk Management department utilizes advanced technology systems for claims and risk management.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Risk Management team employs sophisticated technology systems to facilitate our self-insured insurance program. The claims management system is utilized by numerous adjusters and insurance program personnel, while the risk management system serves a broader user base to access their claims and loss data.

In this role, you will report to the Director of Risk Management, collaborate with team members, and execute successful software upgrades for our business applications. Additionally, you will provide essential support to our end-users.

To excel as a Software Application Support Specialist, you should have substantial experience in delivering application support within a dynamic environment. Exceptional candidates are proactive in their approach to application support.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Delivering software application support under the guidance of the IT or Risk Management Director.
  • Conducting assessments on software application functionality and proposing enhancements.
  • Creating and modifying internal reports using various reporting tools.
  • Engaging with software vendors, internal users, and stakeholders to optimize application performance.
  • Developing and maintaining testing protocols for application upgrades.
  • Identifying root causes of application issues, collaborating with vendors to resolve bugs, and escalating critical concerns to the IT Director.
  • Documenting configuration changes and scheduling application updates.
  • Maintaining records of processes and monitoring application performance metrics.
  • Providing front-end support to management and colleagues across departments.
  • Overseeing and rectifying issues with external interfaces and processes.
  • Understanding the operational workflow and requirements of all departments utilizing the applications.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert in all projects related to the application.
  • Managing a support team and participating in meetings with various stakeholders.
  • Offering expertise in compliance with State and Federal reporting mandates.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in software system support.
  • Proven experience as a Software Application Support Specialist in a related domain.
  • Familiarity with Oracle PL-SQL and IBM Cognos is advantageous.
  • Experience in supporting insurance claims management and risk management systems is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn about EDI troubleshooting and setup.
  • Exceptional ability to provide front-end support to internal departments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Commitment to collaborating with software vendors to resolve issues promptly.
  • Excellent communication skills.

MINIMUM ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution AND Five years of directly related management experience OR an Associate's/Vocational/Technical degree from an accredited institution AND Seven years of directly related management experience OR Two years of experience in a comparable role.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

  • Experience in system administration with advanced technology platforms.
  • Experience with document capturing platforms.
  • Experience in maintaining complex transactional systems.
  • Proficiency in SQL reporting languages.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining reports using business analytics tools.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including the use of Pivot Tables and complex formulas.
