ROLE OVERVIEW:
As a Speech Therapist, you will deliver direct speech therapy services to participants, adhering to physician orders. Your responsibilities will include conducting assessments, evaluations, and creating individualized therapy plans tailored to each patient's needs.
Additionally, you will provide indirect services, including consultation and training for program participants and staff, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct Clinical Services:
- Deliver physician-ordered speech therapy services.
- Ensure timely renewal of physician orders as per regulatory requirements.
- Complete all clinical documentation promptly, including assessments, daily notes, progress reports, and discharge summaries.
- Set patient goals focused on functional outcomes and document progress accurately.
- Conduct communication and swallowing evaluations, developing appropriate programs.
- Assist patients in achieving their treatment goals using therapeutic and assistive devices.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Supervise students and new graduates as assigned.
Indirect Clinical Services:
- Observe diet consistency and recommend necessary equipment for dining needs.
- Update and develop Individualized Plans of Care based on patient requirements.
- Evaluate and instruct patients and caregivers in safe dining practices when direct services are not provided.
- Train and supervise direct care staff on the implementation of treatment plans.
- Provide consultation to team members regarding speech therapy needs.
- Conduct staff training sessions as needed, including specialized training programs.
- Attend scheduled meetings and complete all required training.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possess or be eligible for a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC).
- Licensed and registered as a Speech-Language Pathologist by the relevant state authority.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Reliable transportation is necessary.
- Ability to work independently and motivate others.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Physical capability to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Maintain all required certifications and training.
- Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
