Job Summary

The Grants and Contracts Specialist plays a critical role in administering grants and contracts at California State University, Long Beach. This position ensures compliance with funding guidelines and promotes the efficient use of resources to support educational programs and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Grant and Contract Administration: Manage the financial aspects of grants and contracts, ensuring compliance with funding guidelines and tracking expenses.
  2. Budget Development and Monitoring: Assist in the development of budgets for grant proposals and contracts, monitoring expenditures throughout the project period.
  3. Financial Reporting: Prepare financial reports for grantors, sponsors, and internal stakeholders, including budget-to-actual analyses and expenditure breakdowns.
  4. General Ledger Reconciliation: Reconcile and initiate corrective action relating to accounts, including BTR and journals, and prepare spreadsheets and analyze financial data.
  5. Training and Support: Provide training and guidance to project staff on financial policies, procedures, and best practices related to grants and contracts administration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The Grants and Contracts Specialist must have a strong understanding of federal, state, and institutional regulations governing grants and contracts, including compliance requirements related to budgeting, expenditure tracking, reporting, and auditing. Proficiency in grant proposal writing and budget development is valuable, as is the ability to solve complex problems related to grants and contracts administration.

Education and Experience

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in a related field, such as accounting, finance, or business administration, and three years of related experience in grants and contracts administration, financial management, or a related field. Additional coursework or training in grants management, contract administration, or financial management is preferred.

Physical Demands

This position involves sedentary work, with minimal walking and standing, and lifting limited to lightweight objects (10 pounds or less).Department and Classification

This position is located in the CPaCE Financial Management department and is classified as an Administrative Analyst/Specialist Exempt I.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. The hiring range for this position is $4,598 - $6,458 per month, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.
