Position Overview:

Sylvania Inc. is seeking a dedicated Behavior Support Specialist (Exempt) to enhance student academic achievement and address behavioral challenges within our educational framework.

This role focuses on delivering direct educational assistance to students, facilitating referrals to relevant school and community resources, and coordinating multi-agency services. The primary objective is to provide ongoing support and motivation, ensuring students meet the goals outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 plans, and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).


Key Responsibilities:


As a vital member of the Behavior Success Team, you will:

  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) tailored to individual student needs.
  • Follow established behavior plans meticulously to ensure a safe and consistent learning environment.
  • Provide individualized or small group assistance with lesson tasks to reinforce learning objectives and support academic success.
  • Participate in planning meetings with educators and staff to ensure alignment across the district.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills related to behavior management.
  • Work collaboratively with various stakeholders (e.g., directors, coordinators, teachers, support staff, families) to improve student outcomes and develop effective solutions.
  • Gather and analyze data from diverse sources to inform behavior and academic strategies.
  • Communicate with teachers and parents to provide insights on student progress and necessary adjustments to educational objectives.
  • Demonstrate effective behavior management techniques to promote student success.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times, including before and after school, during lunch, and transitions.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Assist in preparing materials and maintaining IEP-related documentation to support teachers in data management.
  • Conduct research on educational strategies and best practices to stay current with trends in the field.
  • Respond to inquiries from staff and stakeholders to provide necessary information and recommendations.
  • Support classroom teachers and school personnel in implementing strategies for students with challenging behaviors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Expectations and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A passing score on the Education Testing Services (ETS) Para-Pro Assessment, or
  • A minimum of 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits from an accredited institution, or
  • An Associate of Arts degree or higher.
  • Bilingual/Spanish skills are preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in an educational setting with students facing significant behavioral and social-emotional challenges is preferred.

Required:

  • Current certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance.

Reporting Structure:

This position reports to the Building Principal.
