Job OverviewGENERAL PURPOSE

The Evidence Management Specialist is responsible for executing a range of administrative and technical tasks associated with the collection, management, organization, preservation, release, transportation, and disposal of evidence.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Uphold and promote the mission, values, and expectations of Layton City.
  • Ensure the accurate and systematic maintenance of records.
  • Facilitate the intake of evidence through designated lockers.
  • Classify evidence and allocate it to secure storage appropriately.
  • Transfer data from physical documents to digital formats and maintain organized files.
  • Ensure proper labeling and tracking of evidence.
  • Address inquiries from the public regarding evidence matters.
  • Provide guidance and training to officers on evidence handling procedures.
  • Retrieve items for public release.
  • Release items to law enforcement for judicial purposes.
  • Coordinate the transportation of evidence to and from the state crime laboratory.
  • Investigate cases and manage items slated for destruction, ensuring proper disposal and documentation.
  • Update records for items that have been destroyed.
  • Conduct regular audits of the evidence storage area.
  • Maintain the evidence room in a state of readiness for external audits.
  • Send and receive case dispositions from officers at scheduled intervals.
  • Communicate with the public regarding property scheduled for release.
  • Reorganize storage areas following the completion of dispositions.
  • Assist with public fingerprinting services.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Support legal offices with video evidence requests.
  • Manage the disposal of prescription drugs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience is advantageous but not mandatory for entry-level candidates.

A high school diploma or GED is required.
