The Tissue Processing Specialist in Anatomic Pathology plays a crucial role in the preparation of high-quality tissue specimens for histopathological analysis. This position is essential for ensuring accurate embedding orientation and the processing of both paraffin and frozen tissue samples.
Key Responsibilities:
- Master microtomy techniques for both routine and frozen samples.
- Prepare necessary reagents and perform standard hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining, as well as specialized histochemical staining.
- Conduct both manual and automated immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedures.
- Ensure quality control on all prepared microscope slides and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Uphold a clean and organized laboratory environment.
Daily Duties Include:
- Documenting the use and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Performing paraffin tissue processing and embedding procedures.
- Utilizing microtomy skills to prepare routine microscopic slides according to established protocols.
- Carrying out routine H&E staining and cover slipping of slides.
- Troubleshooting equipment issues to minimize operational disruptions.
- Analyzing data collection and addressing any deviations from standard operating procedures (SOP).
- Managing hazardous chemical disposal and maintaining laboratory safety records.
- Assisting with inventory management and supply ordering as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or an Associate's degree (AA) with relevant experience.
- A minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience; HT (ASCP) eligibility within one year of employment.
- Ability to identify various tissue samples, with skills in microtomy and routine H&E staining.
- Knowledge of handling and disposing of biological and chemical substances according to safety protocols.
- Willingness to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
