Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Specialist to join our team at the Institute for the Redesign of Learning. In this 30-hour-per-week position, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of our students while working collaboratively with a supportive and experienced team of professionals.

As a Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing a structured and nurturing environment that fosters the whole child's development – physical, social, emotional, and cognitive abilities. You will work closely with teachers to reinforce lessons, support students with exceptional needs, and help supervise students during class, lunch, and recess.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with exceptional needs to access and engage in their curriculum or school activity.
  • Reinforce lessons presented by teachers by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in small groups.
  • Help supervise students in class, between classes, during lunch and recess, and on field trips.
  • Meet with teachers to review daily lesson plans and contribute information and ideas as appropriate.
  • Work with students in a one-on-one or small group situation to reinforce instruction and help them learn specific academic skills.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma
  • Complete and pass a job-related health screening
  • Willing to participate and complete an in-house, 10-week training program
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • CPR and First Aid Certificates are required but can be provided via in-house training
  • Must clear a current background check through the FBI & DOJ
  • A current TB test (within 2 months)

Environment & Physical Qualifications: This role may require frequent and prolonged bending, stooping, crouching, walking, and standing. You will also need to be able to perform physical management with students, such as physically prompting students, physically escorting students, and conducting physical containment of students in accordance with PRO-ACT, CPI, and/or other behavioral intervention system principles.
