Intermediate Science Educator

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Delivers comprehensive instructional services to academically gifted students and those recognized for their exceptional capabilities at designated educational institutions. Identifies learners with advanced potential through assessments, data collection, and thorough analysis. Provides leadership across the institution regarding advanced education and participates in professional development opportunities within the Wake County Public Schools system.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

? In-depth understanding of evidence-based instructional strategies pertinent to advanced education;

? Proficient in utilizing contemporary instructional technologies, including but not limited to digital platforms, communication tools, and online resources;

? Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher;

? Analytical thinking abilities with a proactive approach to acquiring new knowledge related to advanced education;

? Excellent written and verbal communication capabilities;

? Strong organizational and time management skills;

? Strategic problem-solving abilities, employing various data sources;

? Competence in designing and delivering professional development sessions with a focus on technology-enhanced training methods;

? Capability to assess professional development effectiveness to ensure implementation of relevant topics;

? Ability to integrate advanced educational concepts across diverse subject areas;

? Capacity to foster and maintain productive working relationships with educational staff, students, parents, and the community.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

? Bachelor's degree in education or a related field;

? Previous teaching experience is preferred.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

? Must possess or be eligible for a professional educator's license in North Carolina for elementary or middle grade content areas;

? Within two years of employment, must obtain or be eligible for a North Carolina professional educator's license in advanced education;

? Must maintain a valid driver's license in accordance with North Carolina regulations.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides educational services to enhance and accelerate the standard curriculum in alignment with the local advanced education plan.

2. Operates in accordance with the standards and criteria of the teacher evaluation framework.

3. Demonstrates problem-solving and higher-order thinking skills, employing innovative instructional methods through both integrated and separate instructional delivery.

4. Evaluates and interprets assessments and performance data for advanced learners, sharing findings with relevant stakeholders.

5. Implements current advanced education initiatives and instructional practices to offer intellectually stimulating experiences to students.

6. Instructs gifted and talented students in specialized elective courses within designated educational settings.

7. Facilitates curriculum designed to nurture students' advanced potential.

8. Coordinates and administers individual and small group assessments as required.

9. Communicates comprehensive advanced education program information to all relevant stakeholders.

10. Utilizes technology as an instructional and communication resource.

11. Maintains records for the advanced education program and student performance.

12. Participates in district meetings and professional development related to advanced education.

13. Serves as the chairperson for the School-Based Committee for Advanced Education.

14. Performs additional related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

Must be capable of operating various office equipment and classroom tools, including computers and specialized equipment for students with unique needs. Effective communication is essential. Occasionally requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing up to twenty-five pounds. The role frequently involves activities that require driving.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to function effectively in a school setting and interact directly with educational staff, students, parents, and the community. Travel between educational institutions and central service locations is necessary.
