POSITION OVERVIEW:

The role involves delivering direct educational services to academically gifted students and those identified as highly capable within the assigned educational institution. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Comprehensive understanding of evidence-based instructional strategies pertinent to gifted education;

• Proficient in utilizing current educational technology, including platforms such as wikis, PBworks, and learning management systems;

• Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher;

• Analytical thinking skills with a proactive approach to acquiring new knowledge related to gifted education;

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities;

• Effective organizational and time management skills;

• Strategic problem-solving capabilities, leveraging various data sources;

• Competence in designing and delivering professional development sessions, with a focus on technology-enhanced training methods;

• Ability to assess the effectiveness of professional development initiatives to ensure successful implementation;

• Skill in applying gifted education principles across diverse subject areas;

• Capacity to foster and maintain productive relationships with educational staff, students, parents, and the community.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in education or a related field;

• Previous teaching experience is preferred.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

• Must possess or be eligible for a professional educator's license in North Carolina for elementary or middle grades;

• Within two years of employment, must obtain or be eligible for a North Carolina professional educator's license in gifted education;

• A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required in accordance with North Carolina regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Deliver academic services designed to enrich and accelerate the standard curriculum in alignment with the local gifted education plan.

2. Adhere to the standards and criteria outlined in the teacher evaluation framework.

3. Demonstrate higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills through innovative instructional methods.

4. Evaluate and interpret assessments of gifted learners, sharing insights with relevant stakeholders.

5. Implement current initiatives and instructional strategies to provide intellectually stimulating experiences for students.

6. Instruct gifted and talented students in specialized elective courses within magnet school environments.

7. Facilitate the Explorers curriculum for third-grade students to nurture their gifted potential (specific to elementary settings).

8. Coordinate and conduct individual and small group assessments for gifted education as necessary.

9. Communicate information regarding the gifted program to all relevant stakeholders.

10. Utilize technology effectively as both an instructional and communication resource.

11. Maintain accurate records for the gifted program and student performance.

12. Participate in district meetings and professional development related to gifted education.

13. Act as chair for the School-Based Committee for Gifted Education.

14. Perform additional duties as assigned.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be capable of using various office and classroom equipment, including computers and tools for students with special needs. Effective communication is essential. The role may require lifting, carrying, or moving objects weighing up to twenty-five pounds. The position often involves driving between school locations.

WORK SETTING

Must be prepared to work in a school environment and interact directly with educational staff, students, parents, and the community. Travel among schools and central services is a requirement.
