POSITION OVERVIEW:
The role involves delivering direct educational services to academically gifted students and those recognized for their exceptional capabilities at designated school locations. The educator will identify students with potential for giftedness through assessments, data collection, and thorough analysis. Additionally, the position entails providing leadership in gifted education across the school and participating in professional development activities within the Wake County Public School System.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• In-depth understanding of evidence-based instructional strategies pertinent to gifted education;
• Proficient in utilizing contemporary instructional technologies, including but not limited to digital platforms and communication tools;
• Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher;
• Analytical thinking skills with a proactive approach to learning new concepts related to gifted education;
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities;
• Effective organizational and time management skills;
• Strategic problem-solving capabilities, utilizing diverse data sources;
• Competence in designing and delivering professional development with a focus on technology-enhanced training methods;
• Ability to assess professional development effectiveness to ensure implementation of relevant topics;
• Capacity to apply gifted education principles across various subject areas;
• Skill in fostering and maintaining productive relationships with school personnel, students, parents, and the community.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field;
• Prior teaching experience is preferred.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
• Must possess or be eligible for a North Carolina professional educator's license in a middle grade content area;
• Within two years of employment, must obtain or be eligible for a North Carolina professional educator's license in gifted education;
• A valid motor vehicle operator's license in accordance with North Carolina regulations is required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Deliver academic services that enhance and accelerate the standard curriculum as outlined in the local gifted education plan.
2. Perform duties that align with the established standards and criteria of the teacher evaluation framework.
3. Demonstrate problem-solving and advanced cognitive skills while implementing innovative instructional strategies through both integrated and separate instructional formats.
4. Analyze and interpret assessments and performance data for gifted learners, sharing insights with relevant stakeholders.
5. Maintain and apply current initiatives and instructional methodologies to provide intellectually stimulating experiences for students.
6. Instruct gifted and talented students in specialized elective courses within designated educational settings.
7. Facilitate the curriculum designed for nurturing gifted potential in elementary students.
8. Coordinate and administer individual and small group assessments for gifted education as required.
9. Communicate information regarding the gifted program to all relevant stakeholders.
10. Utilize technology effectively as both an instructional and communication resource.
11. Maintain comprehensive records related to the gifted program and student progress.
12. Participate in district meetings and professional development opportunities focused on gifted education.
13. Lead the School-Based Committee for Gifted Education.
14. Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
Ability to operate various office equipment and classroom tools, including computers and assistive technology for students with special needs. Effective communication skills are essential. The role may require lifting, carrying, or moving objects weighing up to twenty-five pounds. Frequent travel between school locations is necessary.
WORK SETTING
Must be able to function effectively in a school environment and interact with school staff, students, parents, and the community.
