Assistant Professor of Higher Education

Job Summary:

The State University of New York at Buffalo invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Higher Education with expertise in critical, mixed methods, and/or quantitative data science and analytic research. The successful candidate will join the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy, which is committed to improving evidence-based educational policy and creating educational environments that promote access, equity, diversity, and inclusion for marginalized and underserved students.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct exemplary research, commensurate with Research 1 tenure track faculty appointments, leading to the development of innovative ideas and publications in prominent scholarly outlets.
  • Pursue extramural funding for research initiatives.
  • Teach two courses per semester at the graduate level.
  • Advise and mentor graduate students, including chairing and serving on doctoral dissertation committees.
  • Support efforts to recruit Ed.M. and Ph.D. students.
  • Fulfill service responsibilities related to program, departmental, and university affiliations.
Requirements:
  • Earned doctorate in higher education, student affairs administration, or a closely related field by August 2025.
  • Experience mentoring or working with racially minoritized and/or first-generation college students.
  • Research agenda focused on issues of higher education equity and related topics.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical analysis programs.
  • Demonstrated potential for research productivity via peer-reviewed scholarship.
  • Ability to pursue and sustain an externally funded research program.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in mixed methods, quantitative critical (quant crit), and/or large-scale data analysis and/or learning analytics.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in the classroom.
  • Experience working in student affairs.
  • Experience teaching in online or hybrid formats.
