Position Title: Graduate Research Assistant - Research and Instruction Services

Job Summary:
Auburn University's Library department is in search of a Graduate Research Assistant to join the Research and Instruction Services team within Auburn University Libraries. This team is dedicated to delivering research support across all undergraduate and graduate disciplines, along with outreach and service initiatives at Auburn.

Note: This position does not constitute an assistantship.

Key Responsibilities:
The main duty of this role is to support the faculty and staff of the RBD Library in delivering instructional services and assisting library users at the Help Desk located on the second floor. Responsibilities include:
  • Collaborating with library faculty on projects that enhance the instructional services of the Libraries, including reference and collection development.
  • Engaging in meaningful discussions with patrons regarding their research inquiries.
  • Providing guidance to patrons on utilizing the Libraries' catalog and databases to find and assess relevant information.
  • Maintaining familiarity with standard library resources across various formats.
  • Responding to research, directional, and technology-related inquiries through various communication channels including text, online chat, in-person, and phone.
  • Documenting the volume and nature of inquiries received from patrons.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a graduate program at Auburn University.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate strong teaching capabilities, proficient computer skills, and an academic background that aligns with the expertise of our current Research & Instruction Librarians.

Compensation:
The pay rate for this position is $17.00 per hour.

Work Schedule:
The position requires a commitment of 20 hours per week, which will include a combination of daytime, evening, and weekend shifts. Graduate students are also expected to be available during academic breaks when the Libraries are open.
