CAC Family Advocate Job Description

This role requires a compassionate and skilled professional to provide advocacy and counseling services to families affected by child sexual abuse. The CAC Family Advocate will work under the supervision of the Advocacy Program Manager to ensure quality clinical and advocacy services are provided to San Mateo County families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee RTS' presence at the CAC as a partner agency within the San Mateo County Multi-Disciplinary Team.
  • Maintain a positive, professional working relationship with volunteers, clients, the general public, agency staff, and community partners.
  • Work in collaboration with the Advocacy Program Manager to oversee and schedule Staff SACs to support youths/families at the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) and for follow-ups.
  • Meet regularly with multi-disciplinary team members from other fields (e.g., law enforcement, Children and Family Services, the DA's office, etc.) for case collaboration and consultation.
  • Follow-up with youths/families who are seen at the CAC and the Keller Center (KC).
  • Assess immediate needs of families; create family care plan including warm referrals to family partners.
  • Provide crisis intervention and psycho-education to non-offending parents and youth.
  • Assess needs at the CAC to best provide support to families and to make their time there as comfortable as possible.
  • Collaborate with RTS' Counseling team regarding in-take, assessments, and case assignments.
  • Provide direct trauma counseling services, accompaniment, and advocacy to children, adults, and families.
  • Collaborate in planning and implementing outreach efforts in San Mateo County.
  • Participate in weekly group and individual mentoring.
  • Serve on RTS' 24-hour Crisis Line, including overnights.
  • Perform other agency responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) required with a specialization in clinical practice.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English speaker required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working as an advocate and/or providing crisis intervention for youths and/or families.
  • Experience in a supervisory role desired.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, including ability to listen, clarify, validate, and respectfully challenge.
  • Ability to support the skill development of all Staff.
  • Strong interest in and commitment to developing and/or expanding trauma-focused counseling and advocacy skills, including openness to an eclectic range of interventions for supporting child victim-survivor healing.
  • Ability to take initiative, provide leadership combined with openness and patience in learning agency culture.
  • Ability to balance autonomy, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Ability to manage many projects simultaneously (i.e., multi-task) while attending to detail and quality.
  • Ability to effectively outreach to various communities while balancing humility and confidence.
  • Must be familiar and experienced with using relationship-based and trauma-informed care.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PPT), Google Suite, and other commonly used applications.
Benefits:

$68,000 - $72,000/Year DOE + 5% pay differential for bilingual Spanish/English fluency, DOE. Benefits package includes 20 days of PTO accrued/year, retirement plan, healthcare, vision, and dental.
