Responsibilities:
  • Assist with leadership and direction for the Nurse Anesthesia Program Administration to ensure compliance with COA and CCNE accreditation standards.
  • Coordinate the Principles of Anesthesia and other NSAN courses by providing topical outlines and schedules for labs to nurse anesthesia faculty and students.
  • Assist in the development of Nurse Anesthesia didactic materials within regulatory and professional guidelines.
  • Develop and deliver instructional content for the education of nurse anesthesia students during didactic, simulation, and clinical portions of assigned courses.
  • Utilize evaluation tools to assign grades for didactic course work.
  • Evaluate and assess current educational needs of students and participate in the revision of curriculum as needed in conjunction with Program Director for assigned courses.
  • Represent the Fairfield University Nurse Anesthesia program at the Assembly of Didactic and Clinical Educators and other conferences if necessary.
  • Participate in recruitment, selection, and enrollment of students during the admission process.
  • Promote and implement innovative curricular design and education strategies to support resident learning in the nurse anesthesia program, including best practices for distance education.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director and Assistant Program Director to monitor and assess trends in nurse anesthesia practice and education.
  • Communicate with the Program Director and Assistant Program Director student concerns within courses.
  • Maintain open communication with students in program by answering e-mails from students within 24-48 hours business days.
  • Assists Program Director in managing the administrative and programmatic functions of the program by serving as resource for questions and any suggestions for improvement of content and/or process.
  • Competence in use of technology in teaching and distance learning.
  • Acts as a professional role model.
  • Demonstrate computer skills using web-based applications and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Assume other didactic duties as assigned.
  • Work with the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) to assure professional development for didactic faculty.
Requirements:
  • Candidates will possess an earned doctoral degree (preferably in nursing) and the desire and ability to work collaboratively with students, interprofessional faculty, and community partners.
  • Candidates should be prepared to teach day and evening courses.
  • Also required are current CRNA certification by NBCRNA, current (or qualified for), unencumbered RN and APRN Licenses in Connecticut and Texas, current BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications, minimum of 1 year teaching and administrative experience preferred and minimum of two year's experience as a CRNA.
  • Candidates must be innovative in curricular development and be prepared to incorporate simulation pedagogy into courses.
  • Teaching experience and demonstrated commitment to innovation and excellence in the classroom, lab and clinical settings are preferred.
