Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Problem Solving Specialist to join our team at Dolores Street Community Services. This role will provide critical support to individuals experiencing homelessness, empowering them to find creative solutions to exit homelessness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough assessments of individuals experiencing homelessness, identifying barriers to housing stability and developing personalized plans to overcome them.
  • Collaborate with clients to explore alternative solutions to shelter or street homelessness, leveraging their existing networks and resources.
  • Analyze complex situations and procedures to define potential obstacles to successful problem-solving outcomes.
  • Engage participants in empathetic and solution-focused conversations to uncover hidden resources and opportunities.
  • Provide crisis intervention assistance and support as needed, prioritizing the well-being and safety of clients.
  • Utilize the ONE System to make informed referrals to housing programs and internal services, ensuring seamless coordination and support.
  • Conduct regular follow-ups to evaluate the effectiveness of problem-solving strategies and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records and data entry in the ONE System, ensuring timely and efficient reporting.
  • Deliver professional, accessible, and culturally sensitive support, advocacy, and information to program participants.
  • Collaborate with the integrated services team to promote harm reduction, recovery, and wellness, while serving as a liaison to community-based and governmental partners.
  • Participate in ongoing training, staff meetings, and development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • At least 2 years of direct service experience in case management, counseling, or a similar field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Bilingual (written and oral) in Spanish preferred.
  • Experience with crisis intervention, boundary setting, conflict resolution, and de-escalation techniques.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficiency with basic computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, with knowledge of the ONE System a plus.
  • An understanding of intersectionality and the needs of communities impacted by homelessness in San Francisco, particularly in the Mission District.
  • A strong commitment to housing justice and inclusive, multi-cultural programming.
