POSITION SUMMARY

Title: Chinese Library Support Specialist

Department: Library

Employment Status: Non-Exempt

Position Type: Assistant

Weekly Commitment: 8 hours every two weeks

Reports To: Library Team

The Library Support Specialist collaborates with the library team to ensure the smooth operation of the library and plays a key role in implementing the library program, which includes offering Chinese language resources and supporting the acquisition of Chinese literature.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist library staff in daily operations and activities.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of library programs, including storytelling sessions, reading initiatives, and library skills workshops.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized library environment.
  • Prepare and optimize library spaces and equipment for use.
  • Support the circulation of library materials, including lending, returning, reserving, and weeding of resources.
  • Regularly shelve library books and materials.
  • Help create engaging displays and announcements to promote library usage.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as processing materials and managing correspondence.
  • Assist patrons in finding and selecting suitable materials.
  • Ensure appropriate behavior among students in the library.
  • Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards regarding patron information.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by library staff.
  • Engage in professional development activities aligned with library and school improvement objectives.
  • Participate in training sessions focused on technology, information literacy, or library management skills.
  • Take part in staff development opportunities provided by the institution.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Fluency in English and Chinese.
  • Knowledge of library organization and operations.
  • Commitment to promoting equity and inclusion.
  • Enjoyment in working with students, staff, and families in an educational context.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with Google applications.
  • A passion for books and reading.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, squat, reach, and lift light weights.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Capability to maintain confidentiality and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Positive attitude towards responsibilities and openness to feedback.
