About the Role:

As a Support Professional, you will play a vital role in providing one-on-one support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Your primary responsibility will be to teach various life skills, promote community integration, and empower individuals to achieve greater independence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
  • Utilize effective communication and time management skills to provide high-quality support.
  • Provide one-to-one support in community and home settings, promoting independence and community integration.
  • Complete mandatory trainings and apply skills to enhance the quality of support provided.
  • Meet and demonstrate OPWDD Core Competencies to ensure excellence in support.
  • Ensure health, wellness, and safety by managing crisis situations and providing appropriate supervision.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to assist individuals with daily living activities.
  • Transport and escort individuals on recreational activities, medical appointments, and home visits.
  • Build positive relationships with individuals, families, and colleagues.
  • Maintain a therapeutic environment through various methods, including Personal Outcome Measures and Person-Centered Thinking.
  • Ensure person-centered plans are implemented and documented.
  • Complete documentation to ensure compliance and billing.
  • Utilize foundational teaching skills, such as Essential Skills and Supports and Modifications.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred; some college is a plus.
  • Work or life experience within the intellectual/developmental disabilities field is a plus.
  • Ability to support individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Valid Driver's License may be required depending on the position.
  • Tuberculosis test mandatory for most positions.

  • Interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to take initiative and adapt to changing situations.
