Job Overview

As an Automation Control Specialist, you will be tasked with the design, development, installation, and maintenance of equipment utilized to monitor and control systems, machinery, and processes. This role encompasses various applications including industrial controls, cybersecurity, building automation, water/wastewater management, power controls and protection, energy management, and transportation systems. You will be recognized as a technical authority in advanced process control, instrumentation, distributed control systems, PLCs, and SCADA systems, employing these skills to devise and implement solutions that address our clients' most intricate challenges.

Design / Engineering Responsibilities

· Develops design documentation for minor projects and supports larger initiatives.

o Narrative Design Documents

o Requirements Analysis

o Subsystem Designs (CAD / Panels / Layouts / Wiring / SCADA Screens/ Hardware / Communications)

o Preparation of Specifications

o Conducts QA/QC and technical evaluations of designs

o Plans and designs procedures and fixtures for integrated systems factory testing

o Resolves internal/external comments

· Programming Duties

o Leads programming/configuration teams for complex automation and SCADA applications.

o Programs/configures/troubleshoots PLCs, RTUs, and/or HMI systems.

· Testing / Troubleshooting / Deployment / Commissioning

o Authors testing/commissioning procedures

o Prepares test reports

o Originates test procedures

o Commissioning of deployed systems

o Develops test fixtures and simulation devices

o Conducts factory and field testing

· Maintenance Responsibilities

o Troubleshoots service calls for existing and legacy system operators.

o Performs hardware/software upgrades and replacements on existing systems.

Managerial Responsibilities

· Estimation Duties

o Conducts surveys, inspections, and tours of client sites as necessary.

o Prepares cost estimates and supporting documentation for minor projects.

o Assists senior engineers in the preparation of bids and proposals cost estimates and supporting documentation.

o Evaluates and prices change orders

· Personnel Management

o Assigns technical tasks and coordinates with entry-level engineers

o Assigns tasks and coordinates with technical staff

Field Experience

· Proficient in reading electrical and control schematics and plans

· Experienced in control system startup, configuration, and calibration

· Skilled in testing and troubleshooting control systems

· Familiar with basic electrical and machinist hand tools

· Experienced in using testing, calibration, or industry-specific tools and software

Tools / Software Proficiency

· Knowledgeable in computer networks

· Proficient in CAD/CAE Software (AutoCAD / EPLAN)

· Familiar with standard office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)

Requirements

· Proficient in programming languages such as ladder logic and structured text.

· Strong analytical skills and ability to troubleshoot complex automation issues.

· Proficient in designing, programming, and troubleshooting PLCs or DDCs from at least one of the following platforms:

o Siemens (SIMATIC)

o Allen-Bradley (Rockwell Automation) (Plant Pax preferred)

o Schneider Electric (Modicon)

o Tridium Niagara Framework

o ABB (AC500, AC800M)

o Omron

o KMC Controls

o Johnson Controls Metasys

· Proficient in designing, programming, and troubleshooting SCADA solutions from at least one of the following platforms:

o AVEVA (formerly Wonderware) InTouch, System Platform

o Ignition by Inductive Automation

o GE Digital (iFIX, CIMPLICITY)

o Siemens WinCC

o Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View

o AVEVA (formerly Schneider Electric) Citect SCADA

o Intellution FIX32/HMI32 (Historical) by GE Digital

o VTScada by Trihedral Engineering Limited

o AVEVA (OSIsoft PI) Historian

Preferred Licenses / Certifications

· Design Build Institute of America (DBIA)

· Certified SCADA Security Architect (CSSA)

· Certified Automation Professional (CAP)

· Engineer in Training (EIT) in relevant field

· Certification in one or more PLC/Automation Platforms, such as: Schneider, Rockwell, Siemens, Niagara, etc.

· Certification in one or more SCADA platforms, such as: AVEVA, Rockwell, Iconics, Ignition, etc.

Education / Experience

· Master's degree in electrical engineering, automation engineering, or a related field with 0 - 2 years of experience

· Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, automation engineering, or a related field with 2 - 4 years of experience

Abilities

· Ability to work on computer screens for extended periods.

· Capability to sit for prolonged periods.

· Ability to reach by extending hands or arms in any direction.

· Finger dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers rather than whole hands or arms, such as using a keyboard.

· Ability to listen to and comprehend information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

· Ability to communicate information and ideas verbally so others will understand.

· Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.

· Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce logical answers.

· Ability to identify and understand the speech of another person.

· Ability to attend regular in-person meetings with customers outside of assigned office.

· Possession of a driver's license and vehicle for transportation to customer sites. This position may require ongoing or intermittent use of a company vehicle. Selected candidates must possess an acceptable driving record in accordance with our policy.
