Position Overview
Lane County Behavioral Health is seeking enthusiastic Peer Support Specialists to become integral members of our mobile crisis response team under the newly established Mobile Crisis Service of Lane County (MCS-LC). This initiative aims to enhance support for individuals experiencing behavioral health crises throughout the county.
In this role, you will collaborate with a qualified mental health associate to address service requests in both rural and urban settings. Your primary responsibility will be to provide compassionate support to individuals in crisis as part of the MCS-LC Team. This county-wide initiative is dedicated to assisting individuals facing acute crises through effective de-escalation techniques, resource provision, referrals, transportation for further care, and coordination with various partners within the crisis care continuum in Lane County. The ideal candidate will possess experience in offering peer support to individuals with significant mental health challenges and/or substance use disorders, helping them navigate barriers and enhance their quality of life. Utilizing the peer support model, you will deliver encouragement, hope, and support.
We are looking for committed individuals who are solution-oriented, passionate about service, and eager to connect with those in need. Registration as an Adult Mental Health Peer Support Specialist with the Oregon Health Authority Traditional Health Care Worker Registry is a requirement for these positions.

About Our Division
Lane County Behavioral Health serves over 1,600 individuals with various behavioral health conditions. We collaborate with community partners to offer a comprehensive range of services from prevention to treatment and aftercare, fostering an environment that promotes resilience and recovery.
Work Schedule
Hours: 2:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. on varying days. Initial schedules may include Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday shifts. As the program evolves to provide 24-hour coverage, opportunities for flexible shifts will arise.
This role may involve overtime and non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Expect community-based work with travel for routine job responsibilities.
Training and Experience Requirements
- Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.
Preferred Experience:
- At least six months of experience as a peer advocate within a mental health framework.
- Experience in facilitating group discussions and participating in committees is advantageous.
Special Qualifications:
- Certification as a Peer Support Specialist in the State of Oregon.
- Registration as an Adult Mental Health Peer Support Specialist THW (Traditional Health Care Worker) through the Oregon Health Authority.
- Completion of the 40 Hour Adult Mental Health Peer Support Specialist Training & Certification.
- Submission of transcripts, NPI, diploma, and resume for credentialing purposes.
Additional Requirements
Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of application, with a valid Oregon driver's license required by the time of appointment.
Peer Support Specialists must be:
- A self-identified individual currently or formerly receiving mental health services; OR
- A self-identified individual in recovery from a substance use disorder, meeting the abstinence criteria for staff in alcohol and drug treatment programs; OR
- A family member of someone who is a current or former recipient of addiction or mental health services.
During the interview process, candidates will be asked to discuss their recovery experiences.

- Employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a drug screening test.
- Lane County will verify license and certification status as part of the screening process.
- Travel within Lane County (and occasionally outside) for scheduled meetings is a fundamental aspect of this role.
