Job Summary

We are seeking an exceptional leader to serve as the Chief of Pediatric Dentistry at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the Division of Pediatric Dentistry, which includes the residency program, didactic and clinical education, and research programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Division in its education, research, and service missions.
  • Develop and implement a Division strategy, including annual budget and operating plans, to achieve a top-tiered, nationally ranked Division.
  • Lead the development of a dentistry research agenda, including performance targets and metrics, to measure and improve achievement standards.
  • Develop and implement scientific communication strategies to inform and link scientific faculty within the Division and with the health system.
  • Recruit key faculty and develop succession plans to achieve the goals of the Division Strategy.
  • Evaluate performance of faculty, trainees, and staff in line with UCSF guidelines.
  • Lead the day-to-day operations of an active research program and coordinate interactions between researchers and graduate training programs.
  • Establish collaborations for local, regional, and international research and facilitate the growth of new and existing research programs.
  • Develop plans for philanthropic support for research programs, including promotion of extramurally funded research and generation of gifts and endowments.
Requirements
  • Hold a DDS or DMD degree or equivalent and be qualified to be appointed at the associate professor or professor level at UCSF in the academic series most appropriate to their experience and qualifications.
  • Be board-certified in pediatric dentistry and licensed to practice dentistry in the state of California.
  • Have administrative and leadership experience in an academic setting, such as in a program, section, division, department, or research.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to enhancing equity and inclusion through research, teaching, and mentoring, or clinical activities to advance the health of underserved populations.
  • Have a distinguished record of research and clinical excellence in dentistry and experience in dealing with a wide range of programs and specialties.
  • Be a visionary leader with strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to effectively operate in the complex environment of an academic medical center.
