Job Summary

We are seeking an Ambulatory Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join our Plastic Surgery Clinic team at UT Southwestern Medical Center. As an LVN, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and education, ensuring a seamless experience for our patients and their families.

Responsibilities
  • Administer personal and therapeutic measures to patients as directed by physicians and/or nurses.
  • Schedule patients' appointments, tests, and procedures via our online system or telephone, and reinforce physician instructions in person and through telephone contact.
  • Obtain medical history from patients through structured interviews in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Assist in patient care by preparing exam rooms, facilitating diagnostic equipment use, and ensuring availability of necessary patient information.
  • Prepare and administer medications as prescribed by physicians.
  • Collect information and data to assist physicians or Registered Nurses in triaging patient phone calls, following departmental protocols, and document actions in patients' electronic medical records.
  • Take, record, and report patient vital signs using medical equipment; perform procedures of low complexity, such as serial specimen samples, drawing blood from heparin lock, venipuncture, and specimen collection and handling.
  • Document patient care interventions and education in medical records; ensure appropriate patient consent forms and authorizations are obtained for research and/or medical treatment.
  • Inspect equipment and facilities to ensure patient safety and proper functioning.
  • Maintain adequate stock of supplies on carts and in patient exam rooms as required.
  • Order supplies and supplemental nursing materials.
  • Maintain current customer service, clinical, and technical skills by attending training programs and seminars to continue level of competency and ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Attend and participate in meetings related to clinical activities.
  • Complete all necessary clinical documentation in a timely fashion.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse program from an approved school of nursing, licensure as LVN by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.
  • One (1) year experience in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through a course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required.
